Description
Cairngorms National Park reaches into western Aberdeenshire, where high granite mountains, broad plateaux and deeply cut corries give this part of the Scottish Highlands its distinctive scale and exposed character.
Britain's largest national park includes five of Scotland's six highest mountains. Its uplands contain extensive ground above 1,000 metres, while the surrounding glens support ancient woodland. The contrast between high exposed terrain and wooded valleys is central to the park's landscape.
In the Cairngorms National Park view, a steep corrie wall curves around a hollow beyond open moorland. Large pale boulders sit among yellow grass and rust coloured vegetation, their shadows falling sharply across the ground. A blue sky carries high cream clouds above the dark rock faces. The warm vegetation suggests late summer or an early autumn day.
