Description
Camber Sands in East Sussex spreads from grass-covered dunes towards Rye Bay, where pale sand and shallow tidal channels give the coast an unusually open and luminous scale.
East of Rye, the beach at Camber Sands extends for more than two miles along the East Sussex coast. Its dunes are the county’s only sand dune system and provide habitat for plants and animals, adding ecological interest to this broad sandy shore.
A hollow between green marram-covered dunes leads towards an empty beach. Beyond the dune crest, ribbons of blue water divide pale golden sandbars before meeting the deeper sea. A low distant coastline runs along the right horizon. Strong sunlight picks out individual grass blades and leaves cool shadows in the near sand, suggesting a bright summer day beside the open bay.
