Description
Canonteign Falls draws attention to a tall white cascade cutting through a shadowed gorge, with mossy boulders and sunlit leaves lending the watercourse intimacy.
Water drops in several bright ribbons from a narrow cleft, then gathers in a dark pool before running over low stones. Steep rock walls close around the falls, marked by vertical seams, moss and deep green growth. Branches from tall trees form a canopy at the top of the gorge, leaving a pale patch of sky.
Canonteign Falls feels rooted in the close scale of a wooded ravine, where the route of the water is visible from its first drop to the stones at the bottom. The contrast between shaded rock and foaming water gives the Devon setting a clear sense of depth.
