Description
Low white crofts line the shore at Carinish on North Uist, where bright green fields, winding stone boundaries and quiet blue water spread beneath a broad Hebridean sky.
Carinish, also called Cairinis, is a village on North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. It is the first settlement reached when travelling north across the causeway onto the island. The former Carinish Inn has been converted into a church.
Small pale buildings stretch along the low horizon, their dark roofs catching the clear afternoon light. Green strips of pasture descend towards a narrow blue inlet. Rough stone walls follow the folds of the ground, linking the houses with the near shoreline. Cream cloud banks leave wide spaces of blue above the open crofting country.
