Description
Carn a' Ghille Chearr opens Moray's uplands around a rough stone cairn, where tawny slopes and rust-coloured heather overlook wooded valleys, distant water and successive blue ridges.
Rising to 710 metres on the Moray and Highland boundary, this summit is classed as a Graham. It is also a historic county top, placing a relatively modest hill within the geography of both walking routes and the older county landscape of northern Scotland.
At Carn a' Ghille Chearr, a rough cairn stands beside scattered pale rocks. Ochre grass and rusty heather sweep down towards a wooded valley, with a small patch of blue water visible between the tree-covered hills. Cream clouds gather overhead. The warm moorland colours suggest autumn, while clear sunlight gives the near stones hard edges against the softer, overlapping ridges in the distance.
