Description
Carnedd Dafydd in the Welsh Carneddau rises above rounded green slopes and a pale valley stream, its immense grey headwall framed by foreground heather beneath high and softly lit summer clouds.
Carnedd Dafydd reaches 1,044 metres on the main ridge between Pen yr Ole Wen and Carnedd Llewelyn. The summit lies on the Gwynedd and Conwy boundary in Eryri. Broad, boulder-covered ground above contrasts with the steep northern crags known as Ysgolion Duon.
A huge grey and lilac wall of rock closes the upper valley. Rounded green foothills overlap below it, divided by a thin white stream winding through the centre. Nearer boulders sit among olive grass and pink heather. Broad pale clouds soften the summer light, leaving the highest stone cool in colour and the lower slopes brighter and more gently modelled.
