Description
Castlerigg Stone Circle sits in open pasture beneath a rounded fell, giving this broad Cumbrian view a quiet sense of scale beneath a cloud-filled sky.
A ring of standing stones crosses the middle ground, with a few larger stones closer to the viewer. Behind them, a green mountain rises across the horizon beneath large white clouds. The foreground field is divided by darker grass and low lines. Warm light touches the slopes while cloud shadow gathers over the upper ridge.
The stones remain small against the mountain, showing how the circle sits within the surrounding open ground. For someone familiar with Castlerigg Stone Circle, the relationship between the ring and the distant fell is part of the view. The open field leaves a clear approach to the stones, with the mountain rising directly behind them.
