Description
Catrigg Force in North Yorkshire tumbles through a wooded limestone gorge above Stainforth, where narrow white cascades meet mossy rock, fallen branches and the warm leaf colours of autumn.
Above Stainforth in the Yorkshire Dales, Catrigg Force is concealed within a deep wooded gorge. Its waterfall descends in separate drops, and the flow becomes stronger after heavy rain, making water and enclosure central features of this North Yorkshire walking destination.
A narrow white fall appears between steep purple-grey walls before widening into foaming water nearer the foreground. Two fallen trunks lie diagonally across the cascade, with moss softening the rock edges. Yellow and orange leaves brighten the top of the gorge, suggesting autumn. Warm light reaches the upper branches, while the lower stream remains cool and shaded beneath the enclosing cliffs.
