Cesare Dandini, a Florentine painter active during the seventeenth century, produced this allegorical representation of Charity. The composition follows the traditional iconographic depiction of the virtue, featuring a central female figure nursing an infant, accompanied by two putti. One putto pours water from a vessel, while the other gestures towards a burning brazier, symbols associated with the purification and warmth of selfless love.

Dandini employs the dramatic lighting characteristic of the Baroque period. The figures emerge from a dark, indistinct background, with the light source directed to model the forms of the mother and children. The palette relies on saturated primary colours, specifically the deep blue of the woman's mantle and the vivid red of her skirt, which contrast against the pale, soft flesh tones of the infants.
