Description
Clachaig lies in Cowal's Glen Lean in Argyll and Bute, where a small settlement of white cottages recalls the valley's former gunpowder works beneath wooded hills and open upland slopes.
Along the road connecting Holy Loch with Loch Striven, the hamlet occupies Glen Lean on the Cowal peninsula. Its houses were built for workers at a gunpowder mill, while local burns drain eastwards through the Eachaig system towards Holy Loch.
Clachaig appears as a row of white cottages behind low grey stone walls. Blue slate roofs and tall chimneys stand against a dense hillside of conifers, with lighter grass near the upper ridge. Green shrubs and pink flower spikes edge the foreground. Broad cream clouds, fresh foliage and clear angled light suggest a summer afternoon in the wooded glen.
