Description
Coldbackie on the Highland north coast gathers white cottages beside a curving sandy bay, with dark rock bluffs and golden slopes lifting above calm turquoise water near Tongue.
Coldbackie is a crofting settlement in northern Sutherland, a short distance east of Tongue. It sits above a sandy beach facing Tongue Bay and the Rabbit Islands. The surrounding shore combines open grazing ground with rocky hills, giving this small community a sheltered outlook towards the far northern sea.
A broad crescent of pale sand follows the clear blue bay, with low white waves curling along its edge. Beyond, scattered cream houses stand below a dark sheer crag and a line of reddish hills. Long shadows cross the golden grass behind the beach. Full white clouds and warm side light suggest late summer, while a few dark rocks break the near shore.
