Description
Combe Martin on Devon’s northern shore meets Exmoor at a sheltered coastal valley, with steep green cliffs and open blue water giving the surrounding headlands their expansive character.
North Devon’s Combe Martin occupies a sheltered valley at the western fringe of Exmoor National Park. The village opens onto a small cove, with views across the bay towards the headlands beyond, bringing the wooded inland valley into contact with the coast.
Purple heather and yellow-flowering gorse spread over the near slope, above grey foreground rocks. Across the water, a deeply cleft cliff rises to a rounded green ridge, its exposed faces tinted pink and slate. A narrow path follows the upper edge towards fields on the right. Clear blue sea and broad white clouds give the elevated view a bright, late-summer feeling.
