Description
Congleton / The Roaches brings weathered gritstone crags into the foreground above warm valley fields, catching the last orange light in a bold, high moorland prospect.
Broken slabs and rounded boulders cover the steep foreground, coloured violet, charcoal and rust beneath patches of lichen. The escarpment steps up in jagged blocks at the right, then falls away towards hedged farms and distant blue hills. Long layered clouds carry peach light across the open sky, echoing the glow on the rock faces.
Walkers returning to Congleton / The Roaches will know the abrupt change from enclosed lanes to exposed high ground. This picture holds that transition in one frame, keeping the rough stone close while the broad Cheshire and Staffordshire border country opens below it.
