Description
Craignure pairs the welcome of a small island shore with the scale of snow streaked heights, giving admirers of Mull a strong sense of arrival across deep teal water.
A pale linkspan gantry rises over the pier at centre right, with dark pilings repeating below its deck. Little white gables line the narrow coastal strip behind it. Conifers form a long diagonal band across russet slopes, and cream clouds gather above the ridge in separate rounded masses.
The ferry terminal grounds Craignure in its role as an entrance to the Isle of Mull. Between the compact houses and the expansive uplands, the shore has an appealing human scale. A connection formed on an island crossing can begin with just such contrasts: the distant hills seen first, then the details of the landing drawing closer.
