Description
Cùl Mòr in Scotland’s far northwest opens onto blue lochans and isolated rocky peaks, with pale summit slabs, short green turf and cloud shadows spread across the summer moor.
This twin topped mountain stands in Assynt, reaching 849 metres above the surrounding northwest Highland moorland. Torridonian sandstone gives the massif much of its form. The usual approach begins near Knockan, ascending through an open landscape dotted with lochs and outlying hills.
From Cùl Mòr, the high viewpoint looks past pale flat slabs and a low rocky crest on the right towards a broad spread of green hummocks. Irregular blue lochans occupy the hollows below. Two blunt rocky summits stand in the middle distance, with softer blue mountains beyond. Tall white clouds throw broad dark shadows across the lower ground, while fresh grass and bare rocks suggest a bright summer day.
