Description
Eabhal in North Uist rises as a grey cone above scattered blue lochs, with low green crofts and white cottages spread across the Hebridean foreground in soft summer light.
North Uist’s low, water-filled landscape is interrupted by the steep-sided hill of Eabhal, also known as Eaval. Its summit reaches 347 metres. The height is modest by Highland standards, but the surrounding flatness makes the hill a conspicuous landmark across the island.
An uneven grey cone stands behind a maze of blue water and brown islands. Green croft fields break up the lower ground, with many small white houses scattered between the lochs. The nearest vegetation is darker and more textured than the hazy slopes beyond. Soft summer clouds leave broad, muted shadows over the hill and the intricate watery foreground.
