Description
Eaglesfield in Dumfries and Galloway frames a grand country house with golden grasses and woodland, while the low sun colours distant fields and broad clouds in the warm tones of evening.
This village in southeastern Dumfriesshire is associated with Springkell House, a Palladian mansion dating from 1734. Later additions extended the building during the nineteenth century, establishing the substantial country house within the wooded estate landscape near the settlement and the Scottish border.
At Eaglesfield, the house's symmetrical pale façade faces a wide gold field scattered with purple flowers. Columns support a central pediment above its raised entrance and branching steps. Mature trees frame both wings, with patchwork farmland climbing towards low hills. The sun sits just above the distant ridge, suggesting an evening as late summer moves towards harvest.
