Description
Earby spreads beneath Lancashire's border hills in warm evening light, with a central church tower, stone houses and sheep-filled fields linking the town to its surrounding Pennine countryside.
At the north-eastern edge of Pendle, Earby lies close to North Yorkshire and was historically part of Yorkshire's West Craven district. Administered within Lancashire since 1974, the town grew around its beck and railway, with textile mills shaping its industrial development.
A square church tower stands among pale houses below a broad band of green fields. Higher slopes catch peach light, fading to purple at their crests. Sheep graze in the near pasture behind low stone walls, with a dark tree framing the left edge. Full foliage suggests late summer, while the warm sky and long shadows give the valley a particularly gentle evening character.
