Description
Eas a' Chual Aluinn in the northern Highlands sends a white ribbon down vast shaded cliffs, with still blue water and green rocky slopes emphasising the scale of the remote Assynt glen.
In Sutherland’s parish of Assynt, a high plateau drains towards Loch Glencoul through Britain’s tallest waterfall. The total drop is about 200 metres, descending in two main stages. Reaching the falls involves a rough upland walk, while the surrounding sea loch offers a lower perspective on the steep terrain.
Eas a' Chual Aluinn appears as a thin bright cascade against a huge grey mountain wall, splitting briefly where it meets projecting rock. A grassy headland partly hides the lower drop. Calm blue water fills the foreground, edged with small boulders and short grass. Cream clouds shade the upper slopes, lending the snow free summer view a cool, spacious light.
