Description
Falls of Falloch pours through a wooded Highland gorge, its white cascade framed by dark rock, tall pines and a distant mountain under billowing cloud.
Above the water, a lone pale-leaved tree stands on a rocky ledge, backed by a blue-grey mountain and dense banks of conifers. The painting follows several distinct drops into a narrow stream, using mossy boulders and bright foam to give Falls of Falloch its movement.
The composition brings together the shelter of the glen and the scale of the surrounding hills, familiar to walkers travelling through the west of Stirling. It offers a vivid reminder of a stop where the sound and force of the water become the main event, even within a wide Highland landscape.
