Description
Fionnphort Quarry brings sunlit ochre rock, stepped stone platforms and a far-reaching island sea into one striking coastal prospect beneath bands of soft grey cloud.
Deep vertical joints score the quarry face on the left, where shadowed recesses meet scattered blocks on the floor. Beyond the working edge, blue water gathers around dark rocky islets and layered hills, with Fionnphort Quarry opening towards the western horizon.
On Mull, the abrupt transition from cut ground to sea is the detail that fixes this stretch of coast in the mind. The terraces give a sense of the quarry's scale before the eye crosses the water, following the low island silhouettes beneath the changing weather under a weathered cloudbank.
