This woodblock print is a fragment from the series Gojusan tsugi harimaze, or Cutouts of the Fifty-three Stations, produced by Utagawa Hiroshige around 1852. The harimaze format was a popular style of print where multiple smaller images were printed on a single large sheet, intended for the owner to cut out and collect or use for scrapbooking. This specific section depicts a woman in a blue patterned kimono, seated on a simple wooden stool while attending to a leafy shrub.

Hiroshige, one of the final masters of the ukiyo-e tradition, is widely recognised for his ability to capture the atmosphere of the Tōkaidō road. In this composition, the figure is rendered with a focus on the textile pattern of her garment and the quiet, domestic nature of her task. The background features a soft green wash, providing a calm environment for the subject. The print displays the characteristic flat perspective and clean lines associated with mid-nineteenth-century Japanese woodblock printing.

The use of colour is restrained, relying on the contrast between the deep blue of the kimono and the muted green of the foliage. The inclusion of Japanese calligraphy in the upper portion of the print serves as both a title and a decorative element, typical of the period.
