Description
Gainsborough opens along Lincolnshire's Trent in blue reflections and warm brick, where modern riverside buildings and a small moving boat recall the inland port's long dependence on its river.
More than fifty-five miles from the North Sea, Gainsborough is a Lincolnshire market town and inland port on the Trent. Warehouses, breweries and engineering firms formed part of its industrial economy, with the river supporting the town's growth well before the railway arrived.
A small motorboat leaves a pale wake down the broad blue channel. Brick apartment buildings line the left bank, while dense green trees occupy the right. A distant church tower marks the town beyond the bend. Full leaves and clear daylight suggest summer conditions, and broken cream reflections give the river movement beneath the otherwise calm, cloud-filled sky.
