Description
Galston in East Ayrshire spreads below a wide patchwork of green fields, its grey roofed houses and tree avenues forming a compact pattern beneath low blue hills.
Four miles upriver from Kilmarnock, Galston belongs to the chain of small settlements in the Irvine Valley. Wooded countryside surrounds the town, and Barr Castle, a medieval red sandstone tower near the Burn Anne, provides a surviving landmark from its earlier history.
An elevated view spreads across close rows of grey roofed houses towards a broad patchwork of fields. Dark hedges trace angular boundaries between green and gold plots, with scattered white farms beyond. Tree avenues and playing fields occupy the foreground, and low blue hills fade along the horizon. The full canopy and bright grass suggest summer beneath a spacious cloud flecked sky.
