Jan de Beijer was a prolific draughtsman known for his precise topographical records of Dutch towns and cities during the eighteenth century. This drawing depicts the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam, viewed from the Oudezijds Voorburgwal canal. The composition captures the architectural character of the city, focusing on the church structure and the surrounding canal houses. De Beijer utilised a refined technique, employing delicate graphite lines to define the masonry, window tracery, and the foliage of the trees lining the canal bank.

The drawing functions as a historical document, providing a clear view of the urban environment as it appeared in the mid-eighteenth century.
