Description
Glen Clova and Glen Lethnot reach into the Angus Highlands, two neighbouring valleys where rivers, steep slopes and open hill country lead away from the cultivated lowlands of eastern Scotland.
Clova follows the South Esk through a landscape marked by glacial corries, including the hollows near Glen Doll. Farther east, Lethnot contains the Water of Saughs, which becomes West Water, and is the smallest of the five principal Highland valleys in Angus.
Glen Clova and Glen Lethnot are evoked here by a winding pale river between golden fields and densely treed banks. Rounded hills close the distance, their slopes coloured mauve and orange beneath a peach sky. A white cottage stands alone on the left hillside. Amber foliage and warm low light suggest an autumn evening across this broad valley scene.
