Description
Glenfinnan in Highland Lochaber sets a tall stone monument against purple mountain faces, with gold grass, warm woodland and a narrow loch glimpse beneath the peach glow of a spring sunset.
Glenfinnan stands at the head of Loch Shiel, where Prince Charles Edward Stuart gathered supporters in August 1745 for the Jacobite Rising. A monument completed in 1815 commemorates those who fought for the cause. Its high column carries a figure in Highland dress above the lochside ground.
The cylindrical tower catches a strip of golden light, while its opposite side remains violet grey. Low stone gateways mark the enclosure beneath it. Behind, leafy trees glow ochre and russet against steep mauve mountains carrying small snow patches. Peach clouds fill the sky above warm brown grass, suggesting an evening in spring when snow still remains on the distant heights.
