Description
Grassholm and Skomer appear as sheer, grass-topped islands rising from deep blue water, viewed beyond lichen-flecked coastal rock and distant stacks in the foreground.
The nearest island is painted as a broad flat-topped mass, its pale vertical faces interrupted by dark clefts and small ledges. Smaller stacks sit to the left, separated by bands of reflective sea. In front, rough granite slabs carry mustard lichen and sparse flowers, making the distant cliffs feel all the more remote.
Grassholm and Skomer offer a compelling study in island scale and open water. Anyone who has watched these shores from a boat or headland will recognise the pull between the rock forms, broad channel and the smaller stacks beyond.
