Description
Great Douk Cave centres on a sunlit limestone arch, its rough ochre walls framing a deep chamber of stalactites above a scatter of boulders and warm ground.
A huge limestone arch fills the scene at Great Douk Cave, its warm gold face cut by dark seams and ledges. Inside the opening, slender stalactites hang above a shadowed hollow, while loose stones collect on the earth-coloured floor. The low evening sun reaches the cave mouth and illuminates the rock texture around its rim.
Cavers, walkers and local residents may recognise the pull of a place where daylight fades quickly into stone. This image keeps the entrance open to the distant hills, but gives equal weight to the cave's cool interior and the rough ground that leads towards it.
