Description
Harpenden brings Hertfordshire's Church Green into warm evening colour, with a stone memorial cross, spring flowers and a square church tower set among trees and town-centre buildings.
Church Green is one of the open spaces cared for by Harpenden Town Council in Hertfordshire. The council maintains its floral displays and herbaceous beds, and the town's war memorial stands here, giving this central green a civic as well as a garden role.
A tall stone cross rises from stepped paving in front of the church tower. Tulips and daffodils surround its base, while pink blossom and fresh leaves soften the buildings beyond. Peach and violet clouds glow overhead, casting long shadows across the grass. The flowers suggest spring, and the low warm light draws particular attention to the memorial's pale shaft and carved head.
