Description
Harter Fell (Mardale) in Cumbria rises beyond blue reservoir water and pale exposed shores, with green near trees below dark mountain gullies in clear afternoon sunshine during summer.
This 778 metre fell belongs to the far eastern Lake District, where ridges meet above Mardale, Longsleddale and Kentmere. Its northern crags descend steeply towards Haweswater. Historic trade routes cross the nearby Gatescarth and Nan Bield passes, now providing approaches into the high ground around the summit.
Harter Fell (Mardale) rises in green slopes cut by dark rocky gullies beyond blue water. Pale exposed banks curve along both shores, below conifer woods and small rounded tree groups. A leafy near hillside descends towards the reservoir, scattered with grey boulders. High white clouds suggest clear summer afternoon sunshine across the steep upper valley.
