Description
The pale frontage and dark arched opening of Hellfire Caves sit between deep green trees, with a sandy clearing leading towards a pointed gable.
Above West Wycombe village in Buckinghamshire, the caves were excavated during the eighteenth century. The entrance lies on West Wycombe Hill and forms part of the ornamental design of the site. A heritage record lists the feature as a folly and man-made cave system known as Hellfire Caves.
The central tower has a pointed gable above the dark arched opening. Uneven stone walls and narrow pointed recesses frame the entrance, with ivy crossing sections of the masonry. A sandy clearing widens in front, patterned by soft tree shade. Dense green branches surround the open ground and fill the upper edges of the view.
