Description
Hernhill looks across Kent's fruit-growing country from a leafy slope, with a pale church tower, red roofs and long bands of fields reaching towards a low, distant horizon.
In the Hernhill and Boughton fruit belt of Kent, undulating fields contain orchards, hop gardens and scattered traditional settlements. Swale's landscape appraisal identifies Hernhill's church as a landmark visible over a wide area, linking the village skyline to its surrounding agricultural country.
A pale square tower rises amid red roofs and autumn-coloured trees. The foreground falls gently towards a striped green field, while larger bands of cultivated land extend behind the village. Rust and ochre leaves suggest early autumn under warm daylight. Distant pylons and industrial silhouettes punctuate the far horizon, but the near view remains dominated by trees, fields and the central church.
