Description
High Stones is centred on a weathered stone cairn, standing above pale boulders and rolling open upland moorland under broad shifting bands of cloud.
The tower-like cairn is built from uneven brown blocks, with a dark recess set low in its face. Around it, pale rounded rocks spread across a rough summit, catching warm light against short grass. Beyond the ridge, fields and low hills recede in muted greens and blue-grey shadows, while long cloud streaks cross the open sky. This elevated view gives High Stones an exposed, steady character.
A walker arriving at the top may recognise the satisfaction of pausing beside the marker before turning back towards the folds of the countryside. The cairn at High Stones makes the scene feel anchored and navigable, holding the eye above the rocks and distant ground.
