Description
Hixon in Staffordshire combines Trent valley farmland with a history shaped by railways and an airfield, while this waterside view follows a narrowboat towards a stone bridge and lock.
Hixon lies roughly eight miles east of Stafford, surrounded by farms and agricultural land. The parish includes Lea Heath and Pasturefields, and its flat Trent valley setting also accommodated a wartime airfield, completed in 1942 and later used for industry.
In this scene, a cream horse grazes beside a canal while a red, cream and dark blue narrowboat occupies the right foreground. A single stone arch spans the water beyond, with black and white lock beams to its left. Reeds fringe the reflective surface and tall slim trees rise behind the bridge. Warm light, full hedges and fresh grass suggest summer in the countryside.
