Description
Inch in Dumfries and Galloway opens over blue lochs and wooded gardens, with a ruined tower, a distant turreted house and green fields spreading towards low hills beneath softly shaded summer clouds.
Within this Galloway parish, the Castle Kennedy estate occupies the land between the Black and White Lochs. Its seventeenth-century castle was destroyed by fire in 1716 and retained as a garden landmark, while the later Lochinch Castle added another major house to the designed landscape.
The elevated view of Inch follows dark blue water around a long wooded strip of land. A tall roofless tower stands among trees on the right, while a pale turreted house faces the farther shore. Small wooded islands interrupt the open water. Green lawns and distant fields brighten beneath cream clouds, suggesting clear weather in the middle of summer.
