Hiroshige captures the daily rhythm of travellers navigating the river, with passengers huddled under conical hats in small wooden boats. The composition balances the human activity in the foreground with the calm, expansive water and distant tree-lined banks.
The artist employs a clear, graphic style characteristic of the period. The water is rendered with rhythmic, horizontal lines that suggest movement, while the trees are depicted with solid blocks of colour. A single sail appears in the distance, providing a sense of scale and depth to the scene. The colour palette is restrained, relying on shades of blue for the water and sky, complemented by the muted tones of the boats and the foliage.
