Description
Kennacraig on Kintyre's western side in Argyll links the mainland with Islay, its ferry terminal set among the sheltered water and wooded shores of West Loch Tarbert.
Southwest of Tarbert, Kennacraig occupies a shore of the long sea inlet running along western Kintyre. The ferry terminal stands on the rocky islet Eilean Ceann na Creige and serves Islay, making this small mainland settlement an important gateway to the southern Hebrides.
A white ferry with a dark hull approaches beside the terminal's tall supports. Calm turquoise water carries broken reflections of the vessel, a red buoy and the pale clouds above. White shore buildings stand below wooded green and ochre slopes, while fine grasses and white flowers frame the near edge. Warm sunlight and flowering plants suggest a settled summer evening.
