Description
Kew Gardens in southwest London pairs a broad glasshouse with still blue water, while flowering shrubs and a small foreground cascade frame the garden's bright green summer setting.
Within London's botanical gardens, the Rock Garden was established in 1882 and now represents plants from six mountainous regions. Its sandstone levels and waterfalls recreate varied upland habitats, while much of the planting comes from wild collected seed used for scientific study and horticulture.
At Kew Gardens, white water descends over stepped grey rocks between dense shrubs and pale flowers. Beyond the cascade, a wide pond reflects a long curved glasshouse, its central dome rising above symmetrical wings. Mature trees surround the building, including drooping foliage at the right. The fresh greens and abundant flowers suggest summer, under a clear sky broken by large white clouds.
