Description
Kingussie in Highland Badenoch sits beyond a broad blue river and green meadows, with wooded slopes, pale village roofs and rounded purple hills gathering the summer landscape into gentle layers.
Kingussie stands beside the River Spey in Badenoch, within the Cairngorms National Park. Its Gaelic name refers to the head of the pine forest. Nearby Ruthven Barracks occupies an older settlement site, while the modern town developed away from the river’s floodplain on slightly higher ground.
The river forms a broad horizontal strip between tree lined banks, with smooth green fields on either side. A cluster of houses and a larger red and white building appears beyond the meadow. Dark conifers climb the lower hillside, broken by rounded grey rock outcrops. Higher slopes carry muted purple brown vegetation beneath broad pale clouds, suggesting a mild late summer day.
