Description
Kinnoull Hill in Perthshire carries a round stone tower above gold grass and purple heather, with river plain fields beneath orange clouds in the warm light of a late summer sunset.
Kinnoull Hill rises east of Perth above the Tay valley, with trails through mature beech and pine woodland. Its cliff edge tower is an eighteenth century artificial ruin erected after the ninth Earl of Kinnoull’s visit to the Rhine. The folly forms part of the hill’s designed landscape.
A round stone tower rises beside broken walls with a pointed opening. Gold light strikes the right side of the masonry above a smooth grassy clearing. Leafy trees frame the left edge, with purple heather and grey rocks across the near slope. Long field strips and distant water lie below orange clouds, suggesting a warm sunset late in summer.
