Description
Three tall stone arches carry the railway across the River Nidd at Knaresborough, their mirror image wobbling in green water beneath wooded banks and tiled rooftops.
A gravel path curls along the left bank past a rounded tree and clipped shrubs. Terraced houses with red and grey roofs climb the right side, with a pale conservatory near the water and a church tower with spires peeking above the trees. A rough grey outcrop fills the bottom corner. Long reflections of branches break up the glassy surface.
Knaresborough is known for exactly this stack of river, bridge and hillside homes. Visitors who have rowed beneath the arches or looked down from the castle side will see their favourite view in these calm, blue-green colours. It is a view with real depth.
