Description
Knockfarrel in Highland Ross stretches a sunlit grassy spine above patchwork farmland, with copper bracken, scattered pines and distant blue hills giving the ridge a clear early autumn atmosphere.
Knockfarrel lies just east of Strathpeffer in Ross shire, below a hill carrying the remains of an Iron Age fort. The stronghold’s vitrified stone walls gave the settlement its name. Its elevated position on the Cat’s Back ridge overlooks the surrounding farmland west of Dingwall.
A narrow green crest leads away from the viewpoint, with exposed grey rock and a faint path along its top. Copper brown bracken covers the steep right flank, interrupted by several dark pines. White houses and a winding lane sit at the foot of the slope. Beyond, rectangular fields and wooded belts stretch towards low blue hills beneath scattered white clouds.
