Fyodor Vasilyev (1850-1873) was a Russian painter known for his atmospheric landscapes. Despite his short life, cut short by tuberculosis, Vasilyev produced a significant body of work that influenced later Russian artists. He is associated with the Peredvizhniki movement, which sought to depict the realities of Russian life and nature. Vasilyev's paintings often capture the transient effects of light and weather, conveying a sense of mood and emotion. 'Landscape. Crimea' presents a coastal view under a sky heavy with clouds.
