Maurice Utrillo, born in 1883, was a French painter known for his depictions of Parisian cityscapes. His unique style, often referred to as the "white period," is characterised by the use of plaster and other materials to create textured surfaces and muted colour palettes. Utrillo's work captures the atmosphere of Montmartre and other Parisian neighbourhoods, often portraying the quiet streets and buildings with a sense of melancholy. He died in 1955. 'Landscape in Saint-Bernard' presents a tranquil village scene. The composition features a road winding through the village, flanked by buildings and trees. The palette is dominated by soft greens, blues, and whites, creating a hazy, atmospheric effect. Figures are sparsely placed along the road, adding a sense of scale and human presence to the scene. The brushwork is loose and expressive, contributing to the overall impression of a peaceful, sun-drenched day.
