Jean-Baptiste Oudry (1686-1755) was a French Rococo painter, engraver, and designer. Oudry served as the director of the Beauvais and later the Gobelins tapestry manufactories, where his skills in rendering textures and patterns were highly valued. His work bridged the gap between the Baroque and Rococo periods, combining technical skill with a keen eye for detail. 'Leopard' presents the animal in a dynamic pose, its body arched and muscles tense, as if ready to spring. The leopard's coat is rendered with meticulous attention to detail, each spot carefully placed to convey the texture and form of its fur.
