Description
Liathach in Highland Torridon towers above small white cottages, with snow lying across its terraced crown and rust coloured lower slopes beneath a blue sky of broken white winter clouds.
Liathach rises above Glen Torridon as a long ridge defended by steep sandstone terraces and cliffs. Its highest summit, Spidean a’ Choire Lèith, reaches 1,055 metres. The ridge traverse continues through the exposed Am Fasarinen pinnacles, making this one of the best known scrambling mountains in the northwest Highlands.
Snow blankets the upper crown and fills deep gullies between dark rock ribs. A narrow burn descends through the broad rust and ochre face towards pale cottages sheltered by trees at the mountain’s foot. Green fields and dark shrubs occupy the lower edge. Bright snow against dry lower vegetation suggests a clear winter day, with the immense mountain rising close above the settlement.
