Description
Lismore Island rises from Loch Linnhe in Argyll as a low limestone landscape, its fertile green ground and sheltered shores contrasting with the larger mountains around the sea loch.
Northeast of Mull, this long island lies within Loch Linnhe and is formed largely of limestone. Its fertile soil supports grassland, trees and shrubs, while a monastery associated with Saint Moluag made it an early centre of Christianity before the medieval bishopric of Argyll.
Lismore Island is evoked through bright green slopes above broad blue water. A low wooded islet sits offshore, backed by a much higher range of cool blue mountains. Grey rocks interrupt the near grass, and purple thistles add sharp colour at the lower edge. The flowering plants and clear light suggest summer, with scattered clouds leaving the coastal view open.
