Description
Lochailort in Highland Lochaber opens across blue island filled water towards a distant serrated skyline, with wooded headlands and ochre slopes giving the high coastal outlook a clear late summer breadth.
Lochailort stands at the head of Loch Ailort, where the Road to the Isles meets the route towards Salen and Strontian. The shallow sea loch opens west into the Sound of Arisaig. Ardnish lies to its north and the larger Moidart peninsula to the south, enclosing an intricate coastline.
The view passes low grassy slopes and grey outcrops towards a chain of dark wooded islands. Pale rock edges trace the water around narrow channels and small bays. Beyond, the sea broadens to a flat horizon, with a pointed distant ridge on the right. Ochre heather patches, deep green trees and tall white clouds suggest clear light near the end of summer.
