Description
Lochindorb in Highland Strathspey surrounds a low island castle with cool blue water, its broken stone walls and grassy tops reflected below dark woodland and large grey white summer clouds.
Lochindorb is a freshwater loch north of Grantown on Spey. The ruined castle occupies a small island and was once a stronghold of Clan Comyn. Edward I stayed there during his 1303 Scottish campaign, adding a royal connection to this isolated defensive site amid the Highland moors.
The castle’s long grey walls stand close to the water, with round corner towers and ragged openings breaking the outline. Green turf and low shrubs fill the narrow island edge. Across the loch, conifers form a dark band below distant rounded hills. Large pale boulders and rusty shrubs frame the near shore, while tall clouds lend the summer water a softly shaded blue.
